The Allotment Diary: Sunshine and Beans

The sun was out in force, there wasn’t even any tea drunk!  Despite the British week of Summer the vegetables (and the weeds) have been thriving.  There were more potatoes, lots (so many!) more radishes, and this week the broad beans are ready.  Make a delicious dip from broad beans if you have some yourself, click here to read about how to make this thanks to Rebecca Elliot.

We weren’t the first to realise this though; caterpillars and mice seem to have been way ahead of us!   One neighbour we’re happy to see are bees!  Particularly in our wild flower bed.

And of course weeding, which was somewhat over-zealous in places so now we know what parsnip leaves look like….  Hopefully our allotment karma will be re-balanced by the leeks we re-homed.
